Improved pulse wave velocity wave front detection by template-matching
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Pressure waves distributed through the aorta by left ventricular contraction propagate at a rate known as the pulse wave velocity (PWV). PWV is a measure of aortic stiffness, and increased PWV has been correlated with increased coronary artery disease risk. PWV can be measured by velocity-encoded magnetic resonance (PCMR), with velocity profiles collected at a minimum of two locations along the vessel. The commonly used simple linear regression method computes PWV from detected wavefronts in each profile and distance along the aorta. Recognizing the limitation imposed on wave front detection by simple maximum impulse by noise in the signal producing local maxima, we designed and tested a template-matching scheme to improve PWV estimation.

Relationship between head wave amplitudes and seismic refraction velocities to detect lateral variation in the refractor
Refractor ambiguities are big problem in seismic refraction method especially in seismic engineering. There can be hidden subsurface geological phenomena such as hidden faults and shear zones which are not simply predicted by the travel-time graph or some geophysical methods. Head wave amplitudes are used to show the resolution of refractor ambiguities and the existence of anisotropy in complex...

Background: Dementia is a common health problem in the elderly. Studies have shown that levels of pulse wave velocity (PWV) could predict cognitive impairment. The objective of this study was assessment of the relationship between arterial stiffness levels and cognitive status among the older people. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 60 individuals included 31 women and 29 men aged ≥ 60 ...
متن کاملPlane Wave Propagation Through a Planer Slab
An approximation technique is considered for computing transmission and reflection coefficients for propagation of an elastic pulse through a planar slab of finite width. The propagation of elastic pulse through a planar slab is derived from first principles using straightforward time-dependent method. The paper ends with calculations of enhancement factor for the elastic plane wave and it is s...
متن کاملAcoustic wave transducers as Ground Penetrating RADAR cooperative targets for sensing applications
Acoustic wave transducers act as cooperative targets for passive, wireless sensing by converting an incoming electromagnetic pulse to an acoustic wave whose velocity is dependent, by design, with a given quantity under investigation. The acoustic wave is delayed and emitted back to the measurement electronics as an electromagnetic pulse by direct piezoelectric effect. In the context of sub-surf...
متن کاملPulse-front tilt for short-wavelength lasing by means of traveling-wave plasma-excitation.
Generation of coherent short-wavelength radiation across a plasma column is dramatically improved under traveling-wave excitation (TWE). The latter is optimized when its propagation is close to the speed of light, which implies small-angle target-irradiation. Yet, short-wavelength lasing needs large irradiation angles in order to increase the optical penetration of the pump into the plasma core...
